Recent Work: Maple Baked Pears

The most dramatic thing about these maple-baked pears is that they were made by me.

I have been thinking a lot about creativity lately. It’s not that I’m not creative, but rather that I am in a rut of sorts. That happens to all of us at some point or another. We get used to doing the same things over and over again, and our minds stop wandering to new places. But what happens when we get out of our comfort zone?

When we push ourselves out of our comfort zones, it’s like waking up from a deep sleep and seeing everything around us in a new light.

That’s what happened when I took on this portfolio shoot. They wanted a dramatic shot of these baked pears, but I didn’t think that would be enough for their spring collection. So instead, I brought in some wood and some maple syrup to create something truly memorable.

The result was an image that highlights the decadence of this dessert while also giving off a warm and cozy vibe—just what they were going for! The texture of the wood ties this entire shot together; it really takes the viewer somewhere else entirely. It also gave me something new to work with as a photographer: textures!
