I like being able to give my readers photographs of chocolate that are both beautiful and scrumptious. I also want to show them what it takes for me to pull off all that magic, so they can see how I shot this cocoalicious image. The process of creating this picture session, from conception to conclusion, is laid out in this post.
In this section of the article, we’ll take a look at how I set up the photoshoot and how I shot this delicious shot. My goal was to keep things simple and let the cocoa shine through.
I wanted to take photos of cocoa that really showed off its best features in close-up shots, so I decided not to include any props or other items in my shots. The result is a series of images that are all about showing off just how amazing cocoa can be!
For these shots, I used different-sized spoons filled with different varieties of cocoa throughout the shoot.
My inspiration for this Cocoalicious shoot was all about texture, movement, and color. The mood I wanted to create was intriguing and inviting, with a touch of whimsy. I wanted the images to be inviting and lighthearted—a little bit magical, but not too precious or cutesy-poo.
The props had an important role in setting the tone for my shoot. I started by finding pieces that were beautiful on their own—some vintage finds and some custom pieces from local artisans that gave me textures like leather and linen without being too matchy-matchy or fussy looking together on camera.
I hope that my story inspires you to take on your own cocoa-themed photo shoot. Please share your photographs and experiences with me. I love meeting other photographers who are passionate about chocolate!
